Best Farmers' Market- 2010
Montgomery Farm Women’s Cooperative Market. Whether you go for the festive flea market outside, the mounds of local produce inside, a quick lunch or a dose of local history, the Farm Women’s Market is a landmark stop in Bethesda.
Begun in 1932 by farmers’ wives selling preserves, baked goods and produce, “It’s the oldest market in the area, and it’s still going strong,” says Market President Barbara Johnson from Ashton, MD who began coming in 1960.
These days, prepared food is popular too - from Chinese to Indian, Turkish to Greek. Open indoors and out Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; outdoors only on Sundays, weather permitting.
